We Love Our Volunteers!

April 17, 2012

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean, but the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. We can do no great things, only small things with great love.
-Mother Teresa

This week, April 15-21, marks National Volunteer Appreciation Week, recognizing the millions of volunteers who give of their time to make a difference in the lives of others.

Volunteers play an important role in fighting hunger. As many as 91% of pantries, 77% of kitchens, and 85% of shelters in the San Antonio Food Bank network use volunteers. Many programs rely entirely on volunteers and have no paid staff at all.

At the San Antonio Food Bank, our individual, family, community group and corporate volunteers provide invaluable help in our warehouse sorting food and packing food boxes. They also help in our Spur Community Garden tending to the soil, planting and harvesting crops, as well as general garden maintenance. In addition, volunteers help in our kitchens providing meals to those who need it most.

We want to extend a special thanks to all those who volunteer at the San Antonio Food Bank and at our partner agencies. Only through your efforts can we achieve our mission of helping feed the hungry in the San Antonio area and throughout Southwest Texas.

When you donate your time to the San Antonio Food Bank, you become a partner in the fight against hunger. We offer several different ways you can serve. Check out our current volunteer opportunities. You can help in the fight against hunger by volunteering your time.
