Making a Difference
Evelyn Guajardo can be found hard at work in the Volunteer Sorting Room at the San Antonio Food Bank. She is currently working as the Donor Engagement Coordinator, Tuesday through Saturday. She began working with the San Antonio Food Bank in January 2012 as an intern through the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) while working on her degree.
Even though Evelyn’s parents have been divorced for as long as she can remember, she knows they are both very hard-working individuals. Neither graduated from college; her mother only earned a few college credits and her father obtained his GED and networked into a position in the oilfield. Evelyn wanted to go to college and earn a degree.
“My parents’ priority was always my sister and I, helping us emotionally and financially,” Evelyn shared. “I would not have been able to be as successful as I have been without them.”
In May, Evelyn graduated from UTSA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Non-Profit Management. She also received her designation as a Certified Non-profit Professional.
At the San Antonio Food Bank Evelyn has had the opportunity to work and/or shadow different departments, which has guided her through her learning experience in non-profit business. Evelyn and her family are very proud of her accomplishments and for being the first in her family to graduate from college.
